Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster, came out around the same date as Godzilla King of the Monsters. The film is about an island with a mysterious creature that lives on it.


To keep costs down, the film only follows a handful of human characters and keeps its A-listers on one set (posted) so they can shoot all their sequences over lunch. The Asylum might not be as successful because it's a kaiju movie.
